F1 Suzuka Trip – Day 1: Toyota Automobile Museum,20250403

I arrived at my destination, the Toyota Automobile Museum, just after noon. It was a place I had long wanted to visit, and today I finally made it. I first joined a guided tour to get an overview of the collection, then went around again at my own pace, taking time to appreciate the areas that had caught my interest.

The collection of real vehicles—from various manufacturers, beyond brand boundaries—was genuinely impressive. And the way the exhibits were curated was particularly striking. The main exhibition space places iconic Japanese, American, and European cars side by side, while organizing them chronologically from front to back. I found this curatorial approach truly insightful.
It made me think, Ah, so this is how one should look at it. Differences in geography, and changes in how cars were used across time—most notably their popularization—were clearly reflected in the evolution of automotive design.

The section on the origins of Japan’s automotive industry was also exceptionally well put together. All in all, the museum left me with the impression of being a thoughtful and educational place to learn about modern history.

Later, I had coffee at the museum café with N-san, an old acquaintance I had arranged to meet in advance. There’s something deeply satisfying about a road trip that ends with a familiar face waiting for me.

After checking into my hotel near Chubu Centrair Airport, I did a bit of work. Tomorrow, I head for Suzuka Circuit.

I headed west with a Red Bull. I’m sure many F1 fans have done the same.
I realized that I’m a fan of Citroëns. Well, who isn’t?
This one’s a Citroën, too.
No doubt—that’s a Citroën.
Feeling an even deeper affection for the car, I snapped a few photos of my Suzuki. The trouble is, driving this thing is just too much fun—I can’t imagine moving on to another.
