何日かぶりに里山に入った。地面はたっぷりと雨水を蓄え、空気がさっぱりとして気持ちいい。ホトトギスを観察する。鳴き声からすると今日のこの森には少なくとも2羽いるらしい。高い木のてっぺんから遠くに向けて囀っていた1羽が近くに降りてきた。喉を膨らませて鳴いているのがよくわかった。
After several days away, I returned to the satoyama. The ground was richly soaked with rainwater, and the air felt fresh and invigorating.
I observed the lesser cuckoos. Judging from their calls, there seemed to be at least two in the forest today.
One, which had been singing from the top of a tall tree toward the distance, came down closer. I could clearly see its throat swelling as it called out.
