Roses by the Roadside, 20250520

(saki-michite amayo-mo bara-no hikari-ari)

If only the height of summer were as mild as today. There was a breeze, and the shade felt pleasant. I wouldn’t run in the middle of the day, but after sunset, it’s doable—the kind of heat that makes that possible.

Walking through town, I saw roses blooming everywhere.
In haiku, roses are a seasonal word for early summer.

(saki-michite amayo-mo bara-no hikari-ari)
The roses are in full bloom—
even on a rainy night,
their light remains.
