夕方、近所の里山を抜け、遠回りして稲城の中央図書館まで走った。3年間暮らして、この土地をすこしずつ好きになってきた。東京の区部を離れてからこの5月でちょうど5年になるが、もういまさら人混みには戻れそうにない。都市生活に必要な性質はすっかり失われいるはずだ。しかし、都市が人を魅惑するのも事実である。
In the evening, I ran a longer route through the nearby satoyama to reach Inagi Central Library. After three years of living here, I find myself growing increasingly fond of this place. This May marks five years since I left central Tokyo, and I doubt I could ever return to the crowds now. I must have completely lost the qualities needed for city life. And yet, the city, in its own way, has the power to enchant.
