2021年10月8日。
自宅に向けて車を走らせているとき、ふと思い立って海岸に寄ってみることにした。夏のあいだは騒がしいので海には近寄らず、そのまま緊急事態宣言が発令されたことで、どこの海岸の駐車場も閉鎖されていた。海でちょっと一休み、ということをもう何ヶ月もしていなかった。それに今夜は月が出ておらず、雲もない。星空を見るにはいい条件だと思ったのだ。
一宮海岸にクルマを停めて外に出てみると、やはり全天の星が見渡せた。風は穏やかで、波の音も心地いい。流れ星でも見られないかと思ってしばらく空を見上げていた。もちろん、そううまくはいかない。10分ほど過ごしただけで帰ったのだが、頭の中がずいぶんすっきりした気がする。

While driving home, I suddenly felt like stopping by the beach. During the summer, it’s always too crowded, so I tend to stay away—and once the state of emergency was declared, nearly every beach parking lot was closed. It had been months since I last paused by the sea, even just to rest for a moment.
Tonight, though, there was no moon and not a single cloud in the sky. It felt like perfect weather for stargazing.
I parked at Ichinomiya Beach and stepped outside. Sure enough, the entire sky was filled with stars. The wind was gentle, and the sound of the waves was soothing. I looked up, hoping I might catch a shooting star. Of course, it wasn’t that easy.
After about ten minutes, I got back in the car and drove off—but somehow, my head felt much clearer.
